How to Match Your Furniture to Your Flooring

Choosing furniture for your home is a big decision and one that requires a lot of careful consideration, as is with a lot of interior design choices you make. Interior design is such a subjective and creative process, and one that we have so much freedom with, enabling us to design a tailor-made home with bundles of character as well as its own unique vibe.

We wanted to focus on furniture and flooring, as these are two pretty significant parts of interior design. Generally, before you buy anything like this, you have a design or ideal look in your mind already, that gives you a vision of the sort of thing you’re looking for. Perhaps there is a certain style of flooring you are really passionate about and want to have installed, or maybe you want your dining table and chairs to be made from a particular material. There are so many different things to consider, and matching furniture to your flooring can be both challenging and exciting.

Luxury vinyl with a grey and white colour scheme

We are always looking to improve our homes. Whether you make subtle or drastic changes to the design, every change can have a large impact and completely transform the whole atmosphere of the room.

Over the past couple of years, grey and white has become an increasingly popular colour scheme for homes. It is not hard to see why, as it is the perfect combination and makes any room feel modern, classy and upgraded. It’s also a very easy colour scheme to keep consistent and have running through everything in the room, including furniture. Perhaps you have a grey sofa, with white coffee tables, and grey dining table chairs in your living room. One style of flooring we feel is perfect to match with this colour scheme, is luxury vinyl. This often comes in lovely grey tones, that create a really authentic yet modernised feel to a room. If you have a grey and white theme, especially with your furniture, luxury vinyl is completely tailored to suit this and complete the interior design perfectly.

Dark flooring with light furniture

Dark oak flooring with contrasting pale coloured furniture is another interesting combination to go for. Dark flooring, and particularly oak flooring, is perfect for creating a very classy appearance. The great thing about pairing this with contrasting colours in your furniture, is that it makes this luxury style of flooring stand out, whilst creating a strong impact throughout the whole room. Light furniture against a dark floor can really bring the room to life, and almost make it feel more open and clear. We would suggest colours such as white, cream or light grey. Light grey in particular is a very popular colour used in interior design at the minute, so there are lots of beautiful pieces of modern furniture available to choose from.

Solid and engineered hardwood flooring

Here at Ace Hardwood Flooring, two styles that we specialise in most are solid and engineered hardwood flooring. This is because of their extremely high durability along with their compatibility with all rooms. Both styles are very natural looking, making them very compatible with all styles of interior design. For this reason, we strongly recommend solid or engineered hardwood flooring, as it is certain that it will compliment the rest of the room.

Perhaps you like the existing design of your home and the furniture you already have but would benefit from having new flooring installed. New flooring doesn’t have to require a complete revamp of the room and replacing everything, but rather opting for a style of flooring such as this means it will still look fantastic, but just refreshed and upgraded.

Go authentic with laminate flooring

Laminate flooring has a notoriously natural appearance. It is designed to imitate the look of natural wood and because of this, it makes pairing it with furniture quite open and creative. For example, do you want the room to look modern or more traditional? If you’d prefer to go with a modern design, this again gives you a lot of freedom. You may opt to go for a glass coffee table, or a silver fabric sofa, or leather dining chairs. Because laminate flooring looks so natural, it is easy to make all sorts of different designs work. On the other hand, if you want to create a more traditional vibe and keep the natural sort of theme, you could invest in furniture made from wood that have a very natural and manmade appearance.
